The three legs are solid pine, not veneer and not stained to imitate a darker wood. Pine is pale and open-grained, so the base reads as raw material rather than a finish. Bigger than most of what's sold now. At 19.69 inches across it's closer to the shades on older mid-century lamps than to what you'll find on a current floor lamp, where 12 to 14 inches is typical. A shade this wide spreads light over a much larger area and gives the lamp a furniture-like presence rather than an accessory one. Is the wood solid or veneer?

If you have a toddler or a large dog, put it in a corner rather than a walkway like you would any floor lamp.
Is it bright enough to read by?
Yes, if you sit next to it. At 57 inches the shade lands around shoulder height beside a sofa or armchair, which puts the light over your shoulder and onto the page. A 15W LED puts out roughly the same light as a 100W incandescent, which is plenty for a corner of a living room. For warm evening light look for 2700K.
Does it come assembled?
It ships flat and you put it together, which takes a few minutes. The legs attach to the body, then the shade goes on and you add a bulb. Instructions are in the box. No wiring involved, it plugs into a standard outlet.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, with a dimmable smart bulb or a plug-in dimmer. There's no integrated LED or built-in dimmer, which means you're not locked into one system and can swap bulbs whenever you want.
How do I clean the linen shade?
A dry microfibre cloth handles dust, or the brush attachment on a vacuum set low. Natural linen marks easily, so keep water off it. For a mark, dab with a barely damp cloth and let it air dry rather than scrubbing. No cleaning sprays.
Can it go on a covered porch or in a bathroom?
No, it's rated for dry locations only. Linen and damp don't mix, so keep it indoors and away from bathrooms with a shower or tub.
