Oxbow Animal Health - Western Timothy Hay

TL;DR: Oxbow Western Timothy Hay is a high-fibre grass hay meant to be the daily forage base for adult rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and other small herbivores. Its coarse, textured stems encourage natural chewing that supports dental wear and digestive health.

Timothy hay should make up the bulk of a small herbivore's daily diet. Oxbow's Western Timothy offers a balanced fibre profile and appealing texture that encourages grazing throughout the day — a key behaviour for gut motility and tooth health.

Who is it for?

Western Timothy Hay is designed for adult small herbivores who need a high-fibre grass hay as the foundation of their diet. It suits rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, degus, and pet rats whose owners want a consistent staple forage.

For young or pregnant small pets that need a higher-protein, higher-calcium forage, consider Oxbow Animal Health - Alfalfa Hay instead — alfalfa is a legume hay with a different nutritional profile.

How much hay should you feed?

Offer fresh Timothy hay free-choice, every day, in a quantity roughly equal to the size of your pet's body. Refill the hay rack or feeder at least once daily and remove any soiled hay to keep it appealing.

Pair unlimited hay with a measured portion of pellets and a small daily serving of fresh greens. Store the bag in a cool, dry place and reseal between uses to preserve texture and aroma.

If your rabbit or guinea pig prefers thicker, crunchier stems, try Oxbow Animal Health - Prime Cut Hearty & Crunchy Timothy Hay as a textural change-up alongside the standard Western Timothy. Both sit within our wider range of small-pet supplies online for rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas.
